Parliament members to establish a Polish Science Day

08.01.2020

A group of 26 Parliament members submitted a bill to the Sejm to introduce a new national holiday – Polish Science Day. It would be celebrated on February 19, the anniversary of the birth of the Polish astronomer Mikołaj Kopernik.

The Polish Science Day will be an expression of the highest recognition for the achievements of native scientists in the history of our nation and state over 1000 years. What’s more, their discoveries have often had an overwhelming influence on the course of the history of all humanity. They are also part of  the innate human pursuit of truth, goodness and beauty and thus the knowledge and understanding of the world around us and ourselves.

The heliocentric theory, the kerosene lamp or the discovery of radium and polonium are just a few examples of the numerous achievements of Polish women and Poles being the best proof of scientific level of our country – emphasize the applicants.
