The Minister of National Education, Barbara Nowacka, has appointed Paulina Piechna-Więckiewicz, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of National Education, to act as Plenipotentiary of the Minister of Education for the mental health of pupils. The plenipotentiary’s tasks include analysing legislation and solutions for the protection of pupils’ mental health.
Minister Barbara Nowacka and Deputy Minister Paulina Piechna-Więckiewicz met with representatives of the national board of the All-Polish Professional Association of Psychologists. They also attended a meeting with representatives of the Grow SPACE Foundation, during which they discussed a report on suicidal crises in children and young people in 2023 and taking preventive measures in schools to reduce the number of suicide attempts.
‘We are aware of the challenges and the importance of the issue, so we are taking action immediately’, assured Minister Barbara Nowacka.
Pupil Mental Health Plenipotentiary Paulina Piechna-Więckiewicz said she would work in interdepartmental cooperation, as well as dialogue with organisations specialising in the topic of child and adolescent mental health, in order to be able to introduce corrective actions as soon as possible.
