Krzysztof Wolski, a PhD student at the Institute of Environmental Engineering at the Faculty of Environmental Engineering and Geodesy of the University of Life Sciences in Wrocław, has been awarded during the 11th Anna Pasek scholarship competition, promoting the most talented Polish PhD students.
The objective of the awarded project is to show changes in the outflow of waters (with particular emphasis on flood waters) resulting through the transformation of forest systems in selected mountain plots. The PhD student used satellite images LANDSAT 7 and LANDSAT 8 to observe the changes in the structure of the forest over the last 15 years.
Specified changes and observed rainwater and hydrological data will allow to build rainfall – outflow models, based on which it will be possible to detect changes in the outflow from these plots and forecast their future.
