11.02.2020

Anita Sabat-Tomala became the winner of the Anna Pasek 12th Scholarship. She is a PhD student at the Department of Geoinformatics, Cartography and Remote Sensing at the University of Warsaw (UW).

The motto of this year’s competition was “5 mountain elements”. The research project presented in the scholarship application was to be implemented in mountain areas and concerned one of the five elements: earth, air, fire, water and human being or their combination.

The winning project is focused on developing and verifying remote sensing methods for identifying the invasive species of permanent lupine (Lupinus polyphyllus) using hyperspectral imaging and pixel and sub-pixel classification methods (Support Vector Machines, Random Forest, Spectral Angle Mapper, Mixture-Tuned Matched Filtering) – explains Anita Sabat-Tomala geoforum portal. In ther research, the UW PhD student will use HySpex hyperspectral aerial images and aerial laser scanning products obtained by MGGP Aero as part of the HabitARS project.
