Kamila Szostak-Paluch, a PhD student at the Faculty of Fundamental Problems of Technology of the Wrocław University of Science and Technology, was nominated for the Polish Intelligent Development Award 2020 in the “Scientist of the future” category. The jury of the competition appreciated her research on methods of better iron supply to the body.

The young researcher, who works at the Department of Biomedical Engineering, was nominated for completing basic research as part of the project “Model of lipid nanoaggregate transport by epithelial cells including further pharmacokinetic steps”, financed by the National Science Center. Her research can help fight anemia.

The main aim of the project is to analyze the possibility of delivering iron preparations in a liposome carrier. This goal will be achieved thanks to the preparation of an in vitro cell model that allows to determine the effectiveness of iron delivery as liposomal preparations to other parts of the body.
