Mateusz Baluk and Damian Makowski, PhD students in the Department of Environmental Technology at the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Gdańsk, were awarded 2nd place in the nationwide EcoMaster competition. They were awarded for the project “MOF-ujemy deszczówka: z deszczu pod rynnę, a potem… do ogrodu!”. The competition task was to design ecological solutions that could potentially be used to create an ecoCampus.

“The project focuses on sustainable rainwater management, using innovative technologies. It aims to potentially implement a rainwater treatment system at the university for irrigation of green areas”, says Mateusz Baluk.

The designed tank uses metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) in a sorption bed, allowing it to be regenerated multiple times, making the system economical and environmentally friendly. Tanks with MOFs are equipped with water quality detectors, enabling analysis and contaminant profiling.
