The University of Bialystok (UB), Bialystok University of Technology, Medical University of Bialystok and the Christian Theological Academy in Warsaw will cooperate in restoration works in the historic catacombs of the Supraśl monastery – one of the most valuable monuments in the Podlasie Region. 

The aim of the initiative is to save the Supraśl catacombs dug in the 16th-17th centuries. They are the heritage not only of the Orthodox Monastery of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Supraśl, but also of the entire Orthodox Church in Poland.

The university’s cooperation will include the joint conduct of multidisciplinary research and expertise. They will be used to determine the state of preservation of the historic Catacombs of the Monastery of the Male Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary and to develop the substantive assumptions for their conservative conservation. Scientists from the universities involved in the project will also support future conservation activities carried out at the site.
