Polish Academy of Sciences receives 170 million euros loan from the European Investment Bank

22.07.2019

The European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Polish Ministry of Finance signed an agreement on the support of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAS) with a loan of 170 million euros for the years 2019-2020. The funds will help finance the basic scientific activity of institutes and research units belonging to the Polish Academy of Sciences. The EIB loan will complement the financing of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.

Boosting research and development is a key element that will help Poland become a knowledge-based economy. For this reason, the EIB loan activity for the Polish public sector, traditionally focused on large transport infrastructure and urban development, also has a focus on innovation, skills and science. This project is the result of excellent cooperation between the EIB and the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education, which is based on 19 projects financed by the EIB since 2004 – said Vazil Hudák, vice president of the EIB, responsible for operations in Poland.
