Polish Academy of Sciences to launch “Giants of science PL”

The “Giants of science PL” is a joint information and education campaign of the Institute of National Remembrance (IPN) and the Institute of the History of Science of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IHN PAN), which will present the profiles of Polish explorers and their inventions that have influenced the development of modern civilization.

As part of the initiative, the Institute of National Remembrance and IHN PAN will present the discoveries of Jan Czochralski, Ignacy Mościcki, Henryk Magnuski, Józef Kosacki, Mieczysław Bekker and Mieczysław Wolfke.

They will also popularize Polish inventions that have made a significant contribution to the development of many fields of science, including a mine detector used by all the armies of the world, a hydrogen bomb, the first lunar vehicle or the world’s most famous radio – walkie-talkie.

As part of the action, they will also print a five-volume publication “Polish contribution to natural science and technology. Dictionary of Polish and Polish-related explorers, inventors and pioneers of mathematics and natural sciences and technology” and the first of the series of documentaries “Great Polish inventors in the Second Polish Republic”.
