Scientists of the universities of Tübingen (Germany), Rovaniemi (Finland) and the University of Life Sciences in Poznań have checked how the pandemic changes the behavior of amateur ornithologists in their free time. The research has been published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health.
Researchers asked almost 4.5 thousand bird watchers from 97 countries, what changed for them during the pandemic recommendations from late March to early May.
In the responses, 85 percent of polled people confirmed that the pandemic and the blockade had changed their behavior. 60 percent concluded that the pandemic situation limited the observation radius to the immediate vicinity, which often prevented normal observation trips to remote regions.
The vast majority continued to pursue their hobbies: only 8 percent of respondents had less time to observe birds, and 12 percent. stated that it has even much more time.
