Julia Piwowarska, a student of the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice, won the main prize in the competition “Public space in the time of plague” organized by the Design Institute in Kielce.

The winner designed a neighborhood support board, a kind of manual communicator that builds or strengthens social bonds, additionally equipped with a place for hand disinfectant. In the opinion of the jury of the competition, the board is an important element in building a neighborhood community – crucial both in times of a pandemic and after its end.

In the justification of the verdict, the competition jury emphasized the relatively low cost of the board, its availability and ease of use. This makes the neighborhood support board an extremely accurate response to the current situation and the expected economic crisis.
