Polish-Japanese conference on the Holocaust and Hiroshima held at the University of Nagoya

18.12.2018

The “Memory of World War Two in Poland and Japan: The Holocaust and Hiroshima in Comparative Perspectives” Conference was organized by Prof. Ariko Kato from World Liberal Arts Center. The topic was a comparison of the effects of two national disasters: Hiroshima for the Japanese and the Holocaust of Jews for Poles.

Scientists from the Polish Academy of Sciences spoke about Polish attitudes towards Jews during the Holocaust (Prof. Barbara Engelking, Prof. Jacek Leociak), new research concerning the Kielce pogrom (Prof. Joanna Tokarska-Bakir) and the meanders of post-war historical policy (Prof. Piotr Forecki).

The conference was a fruitful platform for exchanging experience and a similar meeting in Poland will probably be organized.
