A scientific expedition carried out as part of the project ‘Around Tsakhiurtyn Hondi. Stone Age research of the Altai and Gobi Desert borderland in Mongolia’. The team of researchers was led by Dr Mirosław Masojć, Professor of the University of Wrocław.

The project is conducted together with the Mongolian Academy of Sciences, the University of Education in Ulaanbaatar, the Archaeological Museum in Gdańsk, the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the National Geological Institute.

The main objective is to identify human activity in the Pleistocene and early Holocene epoch in the area surrounding the so-called Flint Valley, which was at that time a source of high-quality siliceous rocks used for tool-making.

The research undertaken is oriented towards determining human-environment relations, survival strategies and the nature of the settlement network and mobility of the communities living in the area.
