In 14 months, the 17-person design and research team of Łukasiewicz – Institute of Aviation has developed the Polish civilian WR-2 launcher for small suborbital rockets.

During the design and construction of the launchers, competences including advanced engineering design, modern methods of structure strength calculations, multidimensional competences in the construction of mechanical, hydraulic, power and control systems were used.

The launcher project was managed by Marian Dudek – chief designer, Paweł Popkowicz – chief specialist of hydraulic systems and assembly, Łukasz Kędzierski – chief designer of automation systems, and Roman Górecki – project manager.

The launcher was created in order to launch the ILR-33 AMBER 2K rocket, but its technical capabilities were extended to several times larger than the AMBER rockets.

The design is able to handle a rocket with a maximum mass of 3000 kg and a maximum thrust of nearly 80 kN.
