Students of the PWR Racing Team from the Wrocław University of Science and Technology have built their first electric car equipped with autonomous driving systems. After 11 years of working on internal combustion cars, the team, which belongs to the forefront of the prestigious international Formula Student competition, has set a new challenge for itself.

“Most often, teams first decide to either switch from internal combustion to electric drive or to autonomous systems. They rarely carry out these two projects at the same time, because it is a matter of a lot of work, the need to reorganize the team and meeting many new requirements” says Radosław Wróbel, leader of PWR Racing Team.

Students designed almost 90% of the components from scratch including engines, battery pack and planetary gears. They also developed an autonomous system: from perception solutions responsible for scanning the environment, through autonomous braking and steering systems, to algorithms controlling the car.
