Łódź scientists are developing Custom ITAP prosthesis project. The innovation in it is to create an element of a suitable metal alloy that would be directly and permanently attached to the patient’s femur. The project is being developed by a consortium led by the Lodz University of Technology (PŁ) and Bionanopark, Medical University of Lodz and Pabianicka Fabryka Instruments PAFANA S.A.
Our innovation would be a kind of connector to which the prosthesis would be attached. A simple attachment system will allow patients to put on or take off the prosthesis in just a few seconds. Thanks to this, the patient could have an optimal range of motion, difficult to achieve with traditional methods – emphasizes Prof. Bogdan Walkowiak from the Institute of Materials Engineering PŁ, project manager.
This year, the Custom ITAP project will be tested clinically. At the Orthopedics Clinic of the Medical University of Lodz, doctors will select five patients who will test bone implants prepared especially for them.
