Researchers of the University of Life Sciences in Wroclaw to design a mobile laboratory for fish farmers

08.01.2020

Dr  Barbara Bażanów from the Department of Microbiology at the Department of Pathology at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Life Sciences in Wrocław together with Fish Farm Solutions will develop a mobile laboratory for farm fish producers. The project will be implemented as part of the Municipal Support Program for Higher Education and Science Partnership and the “Mozart” Economic Activity Sector.

– We want to create a fast and sensitive diagnostic test – FishSensor, which detects the most common pathogens in cultures. We are constructing a small, portable device that will bring us the result in a few minutes. The test will be just as reliable as the currently used molecular methods, but much more sensitive, faster and cheaper – explains Dr Bażanów.

A portable laboratory will allow breeders to reduce costs and give the opportunity to apply targeted therapy in a case of emergency. The mobile fish diagnostics laboratory will be implemented first on farms in Norway.
