The Polish team of scientists from the Department of Zoology of Invertebrates and Hydrobiology of the University of Lodz and the Department of Zoology of Invertebrates and Limnology of the University of Szczecin discovered a new species of shrimp.

Atyaephyra vladoi is the name given to the new species. It was discovered in the waters of Skadar Lake located in Albania and Montenegro. This is an endemic species, which occurs only in this area.

– Our research allowed to state that the freshwater fauna of this region is much more diverse than previously thought, and its formation is largely associated with sea level fluctuations and uplift of lands in former geological eras – says Professor Michał Grabowski, one from the authors describing the new species of shrimp.
