Polish Senate to work on the Constitution for Science

12.07.2018

The Senate discussed two acts adopted last week by the Sejm: Law on Higher Education and Science and Regulations introducing the Law on Higher Education and Science. Both legislations, after amendments submitted by senators, were sent for further work into the Senate’s committee.

During the discussion, the situation of regional universities after the entry into force of the Act was widely analyzed. In the opinion of some senators, smaller academic centers “will be subject to degradation”.

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Science and Higher Education Jarosław Gowin explained this matter. He confirmed that it is very important to provide regional universities with conditions for sustainable development.

– This law is permeated with the principle of sustainable development, only that sustainable development should not be confused with the sustainable stagnation,”- said Gowin. In his opinion, the Act creates incentives that will enable each university to improve the quality of education and conducting scientific research.
