Pomeranian Medical University to establish the identity of Polish soldiers of World War II

06.05.2021

Specialists from the Pomeranian Medical University in Szczecin managed to establish the identity of three Polish soldiers buried in France and the Netherlands. The exhumed remains were subjected to genetic testing in the Department of Forensic Medicine, where DNA was secured from the selected families.

Comparative DNA research allowed to identify Corporal Jan Dusza from the 1st Gen. Maczek Armored Division, Edward Trochim from the 1st Independent Parachute Brigade and Ryszard Kamecki from the 316 Fighter Squadron of the Polish Air Force in Great Britain.

The remains of soldiers who died during World War II, buried in the nameless graves of unknown soldiers of the Polish Army, are examined with the participation of geneticists from the Szczecin university as part of the project “Missing but unforgettable soldiers of the Polish Armed Forces”, implemented by the Ministry of Culture, National Heritage and Sport.
