Pomeranian University in Słupsk joins the project of combating invasive species

29.01.2021

The consortium with the participation of the Pomeranian Academy in Słupsk will implement the project “Development of control methods for invasive alien species together with pilot activities in the field”.

Biological invasions of alien species resulting from the development of civilization are currently considered one of the greatest threats to the world’s nature. Invasive plant species that are not native to the flora of Poland may cause damage to the environment and the economy and have a negative impact on human health. Invasive alien species in particular have negative effects on biodiversity.

As part of the project, methods of combating species such as: Giant hogweed, Asian knotweed, orange jewelweed, glandular jewelweed, Echinocystis lobata and meadowsweets will be developed. The consortium includes the Pomeranian University, the University of Silesia (leader), ECO FUTURE in Nysa and the Institute of Technology and Life Sciences in Falenty.
