Researchers at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan have examined the daily lives of Poles in an energy crisis. The study is part of the international project ‘Disrupted Routines’, an ad hoc initiative undertaken by members of the Sociology of Consumption section of the European Sociological Association in response to the energy and social crisis caused by the war in Ukraine.
Are burning a candle and a mug of warm drink effective methods of heating? From the publication ‘Disrupted routines. A research report on everyday life in an energy crisis’, prepared by sociologists from Poznan, shows that many of us took them into account last winter.
The researchers found that 70 % of those surveyed turned off the lights more often, 50 % turned off the heating more often, 30 % saved less often by staying indoors, and 60 % changed their bathing habits. The researchers also found out about the relationship between income or gender and caring for a warm home.
