27.05.2019

SkyLab – a unique astronomical observatory used to conduct industrial research and research and development of the optical observation systems was launched at the Poznan University of Technology. The ceremony was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Science and Higher Education, Jarosław Gowin.

The laboratory was launched in a special astronomical dome on the roof of the laboratory hall at the Piotrowo campus. Thanks to the apparatus, scholars can observe objects of size of a pixel from a distance of one kilometre, which allows them to monitor space debris being a threat to satellites.

SkyLab research team’s new competences in the construction of observation equipment will contribute to the construction of national technical and intellectual potential for the use of space, strengthen Poland’s position, and even allow to be a leader in the field of observation of space objects.
