Professor Edward Balcerzan from the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań became the laureate of the XXVIII Scientific Award of the City of Poznań. The Committee also awarded scholarships to two young researchers from the Poznań university.
Candidature of Prof. Balcerzan – a literary scholar, poet, prose writer, translator and essayist was put forward by the Poznan University. The authors of the application underlined the importance of the Professor’s achievements in Polish post-war science about literature.
Thanks to his theoretical studies, Prof. Balcerzan became the co-founder of the structural and semiotic school, which made Poznań famous as a center of humanistic research. In the monograph “Literariness. Models, gradations, experiments” he proved that Polish theoretical thought in literary studies proposes original concepts and methods to foreign scientists.
The Award Committee also awarded scholarships to two young scientists Piotr Alexandrowicz and Anna Walczak from the University.
