Prof. Hans Joachim Schellnhuber becomes the laureate of the international science award Ratio et Spes

Prof. Hans Joachim Schellnhuber has become this year’s laureate of the Ratio et Spes international scientific award – a distinction awarded jointly by the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń and the Vatican Joseph Ratzinger-Benedetto XVI Foundation.

The award was granted to Prof. Schellnhuber for a series of interdisciplinary publications opening or expanding new research fields on the impact of global warming on many aspects important for the environment and human life, such as health, economy and social relations, as well as dealing with the issues of humanity’s understanding of the threats posed by climate change.

Prof. Hans Joachim Schellnhuber is a German theoretical physicist, atmospheric physicist and climatologist. His main research interests include the physics of condensed matter, the dynamics of complex systems, the study of climate change, analysis of the Earth system and the science of sustainable development.
