Professor Alfred Forchel to deliver a lecture at the Wrocław University of Technology

04.03.2019

Wroclaw University of Technology invites participants to the lecture by Professor of Alfred Forchel, world-renowned physicist from the University of Würzburg, on 7 March entitled “Semiconductor nanophotonics – opportunities and challenges for science and applications”.

It will be a summary of the most important discoveries in the field of semiconductor nanophotonics – new physical phenomena related to the interaction of light with matter at the quantum level and the construction of active optoelectronic elements based on them, serving such forward-looking fields as photonic integrated circuits and quantum communication.

Alfred Forchel studied physics at the University of Stuttgart, where he was awarded a PhD degree. In 1990 he became a professor at the University of Julius and Maksymilian in Würzburg, where he headed the Department of Technical Physics. He created there a modern laboratory of nanostructures and semiconductor devices. Since 2009 he has been the rector of this university.
