Professor Daniel T. Gryko from the Institute of Organic Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN), in cooperation with scientists from South Korea, discovered a new chemical compound and described its properties. Research results are published by the prestigious chemical weekly Journal of American Chemical Society.
The publication concerns the synthesis and photophysical properties of the previously unknown structurally complex heterocyl compound being a hybrid of pyrrolo [3,2-b] pyrrole and diketopyrrolo-pyrrole.
-The tested properties of the substance became the first such a case in the world when the processes of intramolecular charge separation and charge transfer were extracted within the same molecule. The point is that the process in the excited state occurs in two stages: the first stage is the partial transfer of the load, and only then full separation of the load is completed.
The article is the result of cooperation between Prof. Gryko, who is the director of the Institute of Organic Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences and a group headed by Prof. Dongho Kim from Yonsei University in Seoul.
