Professor Janusz Bujnicki wins the Young Academy of Europe Prize

Professor Janusz Bujnicki, head of the Laboratory of Bioinformatics and Protein Engineering of the International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology in Warsaw, has been awarded this year’s Young Academy of Europe Prize. He was nominated for the award by the Academy of Young Scientists of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN).

Professor Bujnicki is a biologist by profession and one of the authorities in the field of bioinformatics in Poland. In his work he combines theoretical and experimental research. His research deals with the development of new algorithms and their implementation in the form of computer software, the use of these methods for the analysis of biological data and experimental research.

He is the author of over 300 publications and a laureate of EMBO / HHMI Young Investigator Program and many other prizes and scholarships. In 2010 he received the prestigious ERC Starting Grant. In 2013, he won the national competition “Poles with verve” in the Science category.
