Professor Wojciech Stefan Maksymowicz, head of the Department of Neurosurgery at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Warmia and Mazury (UWM) in Olsztyn was appointed the Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Science and Higher Education by Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.
Professor Maksymowicz will run the Department of Innovation and Development and the Department of International Cooperation in the Ministry of Science.
In the years 1997-1999 he was the minister of health and social welfare in the government of Jerzy Buzek. Then, until 2007, he worked at the Central Clinical Hospital of the Ministry of Interior and Administration in Warsaw. In October 2007 he conducted the duties of dean at the UWM Faculty of Medical Sciences. In March 2016, he was elected the UWM vice-rector for medical school.
From August 2018 he was an advisor to Jarosław Gowin – deputy prime minister and minister of science and higher education.
