Professor Zbigniew Gaciong was elected rector of the Medical University of Warsaw (WUM) for the term 2020-2024. He will replace Prof. Mirosław Wielgoś, who managed the university since 2016.
Professor Zbigniew Gaciong was born on December 17, 1955 in Warsaw. He is a professor of medical sciences and an academic teacher at the Medical University of Warsaw. He is a specialist in internal medicine and hypertension. He graduated from the First Faculty of Medicine at the Medical Academy in Warsaw, where he also obtained the title of habilitated doctor (1992) and the title of professor of the Republic of Poland (1996).
Since 1998, he has been the head of the Department and Clinic of Internal Medicine, Hypertension and Angiology of the Medical University of Warsaw. He is also a member of the Medical Sciences Discipline Council of the Medical University of Warsaw (Non-Surgical Clinical Medical Sciences). He is also a member of the Council of Scientific Excellence in medical sciences and health sciences in the discipline of medical sciences.
In 1996–2002 he was vice-dean of the First Faculty of Medicine, vice-dean for the next three years, and then until 2012 the dean of the Postgraduate Education Center. He is the president of the Polish Society of Personalized Medicine.
