Silesian Medical University loans equipment to COVID-19 diagnostic laboratories

The Medical University of Silesia in Katowice (SUM) supported the GynCentrum Medical Laboratory – Sosnowiec Branch loaning the equipment (RealTime PCR Light Cycler 480 II) from the Department of Molecular Biology of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences in Sosnowiec, enabling molecular diagnostics for COVID-19. The GynCentrum was launched in April.

This is one of five laboratories in the voivodship that can carry out this type of research and the third which was supported by the Medical University of Silesia. In early March, SUM released the LightCycler 96 apparatus for RealTtime PCR to the Provincial Sanitary and Epidemiological Station in Katowice. The University also provided the Station with swabs for taking tests, necessary to perform the tests.

The university also supported the Silesian Park of Medical Technologies Cardio-Med Silesia in Zabrze, loaning medical equipment from the Departments of the Faculty of Medical Sciences in Zabrze to launch a genetic testing laboratory.
