The “Climate – Self-cleaning surfaces” project, implemented by the Scientific Club of Chemists of the University of Gdańsk, won in the “Student Project of the Year” category at the Pro Juvenes 2021 Student Community Awards Gala.
– The project started in the autumn, 2020. Its main goal is the production of self-cleaning surfaces and the assessment of their efficiency in the current geolocation location, in Gdańsk – says Agnieszka Manikowska, President of the Scientific Club of Chemists of the University of Gdańsk.
The created surfaces are aimed at the most effective cleaning of the air or dirt deposited on them under the influence of solar radiation. Therefore the synthesis creates surfaces with photocatalysts composed of various components: titanium dioxide, narrow-band semiconductors and silver nanoparticles.
The project involves the production of photocatalysts in accordance with the principles of Green Chemistry, using extracts and plant materials.
