The University of Silesia is inviting participants to a series of lectures and online meetings with representatives of Indigenous peoples from Canada’s Northwest Coast. The lectures will be given by Dr Mique’l Dangeli (Tsimshian Nation of Metlakatla, Alaska) and Andy Wilson (Haida Nation) from British Columbia, Canada.

The lectures will focus on the Indigenous cultures of Canada’s Northwest Coast and the Haida Gwaii archipelago, with particular emphasis on the decolonial history of these regions and cultural sovereignty. Researchers will discuss Indigenous performing and visual arts as alternative forms of reclaiming, acquiring and transmitting knowledge.

Both events are an important part of research and didactics on the relevance and role of indigenous humanities in the contemporary world – a humanities that is engaged, transformative, promotes holistic approaches, and respects alternative ways of knowing.
