Professor Piotr Stepnowski from the University of Gdańsk, a recognized global authority in the field of research and environmental protection, has been awarded the Gdansk University of Science and Technology Award of Jan Heweliusz for the year 2018 in the category of exact sciences and natural sciences.
The prize, called the Pomeranian Nobel, was awarded to Prof. Stepnowski for his significant contribution to the development of research on the prognosis, detection and assessment of the negative effects of remnants of medicinal substances and ionic liquids in the environment.
Professor Stepnowski is a world pioneer of research in the field of detection and assessment of environmental exposure of atypical chemical pollutants such as drug residues and so-called ionic liquids – modern industrial solvents. His methods are now widely used by scientific and industrial laboratories around the world to analyze ionic liquids and products of their transformation and decay.
