Researcher at the University of Technology and Humanities in Bielsko-Biała wins the Quarry Life Award

Dr Damian Chmura prof. Academy of Technology and Humanities in Bielsko-Biała (ATH) in cooperation with Dr Tadeusz Molenda of the University of Silesia won the Quarry Life Award for the work “Environmental determinants of succession in mineral aggregate mines as the basis for their reclamation”.

The authors based on the conducted botanical and hydrological studies and presented the concept of restoring the natural value of the “Wójcice” mineral aggregate mine after possible discontinuation of operation. Their work was awarded in the category of biodiversity management and research on habitats and species.

The Quarry Life Award is a science and didactic contest aimed at promoting the diversity of local flora and fauna, raising awareness of the biological value of mining areas and seeking ways to increase their biodiversity. In the fourth contest 6 of over 20 projects were selected for funding and 4 of them were awarded.
