Dr Zygmunt Łuniewicz from the Department of Architecture Conservation and Cultural Landscape Revaluation at Wrocław University of Science and Technology will conduct research on the castle in Bierutów and its history in the modern era. He has won a grant for his research in the Miniatura competition of the National Science Centre.

Among other things, the scientist intends to read hitherto unused manuscripts from the time of the construction and later documents, as well as to search the archives for hitherto unknown engravings, photographs and descriptions. He also intends to measure the parts that have survived to the present day, together with their details, in order to answer questions what the building looked like in its heyday, what were the functions of the various rooms, when were they built and when were destroyed the parts that do not exist today.

“Despite the long-standing fascination with Silesian castles and numerous studies on their subject, it is still possible to find buildings that are virtually unknown, with minimal documentation and literature. The castle in Bierutow is one of them”, says the project’s author.
