Dr Żywilla Fechner from the Institute of Mathematics of the Lodz University of Technology, Lodz University of Technology, received the Award of the Polish Society of Women in Mathematics (PTKM) for 2020. The jury appreciated her publications on many years of research on problems arising from the theory of hypergroups.

Dr Żywilla Fechner is an assistant professor of the Insurance and Capital Markets Institute at the Institute of Mathematics. Her research interests include Fourier’s analysis.

-We are currently doing in scientific research is the Fourier analysis on abstract structures called hypergroups, – said Dr. Fechner. Some of the hypergroups can be used to describe a model of particle collisions or a random walk on multidimensional cubes. Potential applications of such research include formal justification of solutions to problems in physics, chemistry or information theory.

Dr Fechner is also a lecturer of the Faculty of Technical Physics, Computer Science and Applied Mathematics. She teaches statistics and data analysis at BA and MA studies.
