Dr Katharina Boguslawski, Prof. of the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń of the faculty of physics, astronomy and applied computer science, was awarded the Polityka Science Award in the category of exact sciences.
By developing methods enabling the quantitative theoretical description of chemical compounds composed of many atoms, the laureate combines chemistry, physics and mathematics with applied computer science in her research work. She deals with the development of new and unique worldwide computational methods allowing for modeling the properties of chemical molecules of large sizes. Such models are extremely useful during the synthesis of new substances, allowing the avoidance of many time-consuming, costly and often dangerous tests.
The Torun scientist has published over 40 publications, runs his own research group, was a scholarship holder of the Foundation for Polish Science and of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.
