Dr Eng. Jakub Nalepa of the Faculty of Automatic Control, Electronics and Computer Science of the Silesian University of Technology was among the scholarship holders of the jubilee, twentieth competition for the Polityka’s Scientific Awards. Dr Eng. Jakub Nalepa was awarded in the category of “Technical Sciences”.

His research interests are focused on designing algorithms for medical imaging, satellite Earth observation or reducing exhaust emissions by optimizing transport in cities. The results of his research are used in the analysis of computed tomography and magnetic resonance images and monitoring of the environment.

The scholarship holder focuses on machine learning and nature-inspired algorithms and applies them to image analysis and solving complex optimization problems. Dr Eng. Nalepa connects science and industry, thanks to which his achievements quickly find socially significant applications.
