Researcher of the University of Silesia developing new generation composites

30.04.2020

Dr Eng. Karolina Jurkiewicz from the faculty of exact and technical sciences of the University of Silesia is developing new generation materials to make anodes for lithium-ion batteries. The research is financed by the National Center for Research and Development.

The researcher is interested in composites based on carbon materials and ceramic or metallic nanoparticles for their applications in energy storage. She is analyzing the mutual influence of particles and the carbon matrix on their structure, distribution, size and shape of nanoparticles and ordered domains as well as the form of the structure of dopants of various compounds.

– I am optimizing the production of structures based on carbon materials. I work with research centers and companies dealing with these types of technologies to carry out interesting laboratory tests on the one hand, and design solutions that can be used on an industrial scale on the other.
