Dr Sylwia Zielińska-Raczyńska of the University of Technology and Industry in Bydgoszcz was nominated for the Polish Intelligent Development Award 2020 in the “Scientist of the future” category for the project entitled: “Coherent interaction of Rydberg excitons with electromagnetic radiation”.

Excitons, discovered in 2014 in the Cu2O crystal, are characterized by unusually high stability and size, which translates into many potential applications in optoelectronics. The scientist from Bydgoszcz is a member of one of the three most important groups in the world dealing with these structures.

Scientific works concerning fundamental issues based on subtle quantum interference effects and supporting the development of nanotechnology, are important in the information processing, controllable memory processors and contribute to the development of research leading to the construction of quantum computers.
