Researcher of the University of Wrocław awarded by the Association of Polish Geomorphologists

29.09.2021

Dr Milena Różycka from the Institute of Geography and Regional Development of the University of Wrocław was awarded the Stefan Kozarski’s diploma for the best doctoral thesis in Poland in geomorphology in 2020. The award was decided by the jury of the Association of Polish Geomorphologists.

The subject of the dissertation by Dr Różycka was the relief of the Orlicko-Bystrzyckie mountain range on the Polish-Czech border, in the central part of the Sudetes, and its main aim was to explain the role of vertical movements of the earth’s crust in shaping it.

She conducted the analysis with statistical tools and computer programs of the so-called Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Her paper presents original approaches to the identification of a tectonic signal in the relief, separating its influence from the influence of the differentiation of the bedrock.
