29.09.2021

Dr Karolina Pierzynowska from the Faculty of Biology at the University of Gdańsk received the prestigious international Future Science Future Star Award. She is the first Polish laureate of this award.

The Future Science Future Star Award, granted by the Future Science publisher and the BioTechniques journal, recognizes outstanding scientists in the life sciences, whose work can significantly affect human health. The award is given to people who have demonstrated a quick and intense start in their scientific career, and who are also passionate about their research.

The jury appreciated the research by Dr Pierzynowska, in which the laureate is trying to develop a therapy for Alzheimer’s and Huntington’s disease using genistein – a naturally occurring isoflavone. Studies conducted on both in vitro and mouse models have demonstrated the high safety and high effectiveness of this therapy.
