Researcher of the Wrocław University of Science and Technology receives the prize of the Minister of Development

Dr Eng. Aleksandra Gierko, a researcher of the Wrocław University of Science and Technology received the award of the Minister of Development for her PhD thesis “Selected aspects of wetland reclamation in the context of Wrocław irrigation fields”.

The laureate works at the Department of Public Architecture, Fundamentals of Design and Environmental Management. She conducts research in the discipline of architecture and urban planning, focusing on issues related to blue and green infrastructure in the adaptation of cities to climate change.
Wroclaw irrigation fields include almost 1300 hectares of land in the northwest of the city. They were established in the late 1870s and served for over a hundred years.

– The areas of the former irrigation fields located in the northern part of the city may become recreational areas and even a tourist attraction of Wrocław, being at the same time a home for many species of plants and animals, especially birds.
