Researcher of the Wrocław University of Technology wins the Award of the European Mathematical Society

01.08.2018

Dr  Mateusz Kwaśnicki from the Wrocław University of Technology received the prize of Mikhail Gordin, awarded by the European Mathematical Society. The scientist was awarded for his contribution to the spectral analysis of Lévy’s processes.

– It is about random processes that are used to model, for example, stock prices or capital of insurance companies. The modeled size may vary in a non-continuous manner. To describe the different quantities associated with these processes, you need to have tools for it. Spectral analysis is one of them – explains the young scientist, quoted on the university website.

The award was established to commemorate the outstanding Russian mathematician Mikhail Gordin. It is awarded to researchers from Eastern Europe who have achieved ground-breaking research results in probability theory or dynamic systems
The laureate’s scientific interests include the theory of stochastic processes, the theory of potential, harmonic analysis and differential equations.
