Researchers from the Department of Psychiatry at the Medical University of Wrocław will examine how the war traumas experienced and still experienced by refugees from Ukraine affect the activity of neuronal networks and the development of possible psychiatric disorders. The project is funded by the National Science Centre.
The study will involve 65 Ukrainian citizens aged 18-65 who crossed the border after the start of hostilities and an age-matched control group. As a first step, the refugees will be examined using psychiatric tests and asked to complete two questionnaires, i.e. war trauma and emigration stress. The final stage will be an examination using MRI,
“In this respect, our study is innovative, no one has previously examined how war trauma affects the neuronal network and brain function of refugees”, says project leader Dr Julian Maciaszek.
