University of Wrocław researchers publish in prestigious British Medical Journal

Researchers from the Scientific Excellence Incubator – Meta Research Centre at the University of Wrocław have published an article in the prestigious British Medical Journal. Their research concerns the scientific credibility of the marketing of artificial baby milk.

Nutritional and health claims for infant formula are highly controversial, as they may increase the perceived value of breast milk substitutes and thus discourage mothers from breastfeeding. In addition, there are doubts about the veracity of common claims. Breastfeeding choice is also influenced by the marketing of infant formula.

The aim of this cross-sectional study was to review the available health and nutrition claims for infant formula products in a number of countries and to assess the reliability of the evidence used to substantiate these claims.
