Researchers at the Silesian University of Technology (PŚ) are participating in the development of an autonomous minibus that can be driven by a remote operator if necessary. The state-of-the-art vehicle, developed in consortium with the Gliwice-based company Blees, is expected to be fully safe for passengers.

The design is a response to market demand, where there has been a shortage of drivers for years. It is intended to be an electric, autonomous minibus that can travel on roads without a driver on board. It could carry 15 people at a time (there are seven seats in the minibus) and is also suitable for wheelchair users and the visually impaired.

“We are involved in a number of tests. We are testing our solution for remote control and monitoring of the vehicle in the area of the technology park – near Bojkowska Street in Gliwice. For the time being, these are simulated situations, e.g. how to avoid unplanned road works, explains Dr. Piotr Przystałka, Professor of the Silesian University of Technology.
