Researchers from the Faculty of Construction, Environmental Engineering and Architecture at Rzeszów University of Technology (PRz) Dr Eng. Igor Labuda, and Stanisław Mosoń, (Department of Architectural Design and Engineering Graphics) and Dr Michał Proksa, professor at the Rzeszów University of Technology (Department of Urban Planning and Architecture) are working on an innovative kinetic energy absorber which will enable the absorption of kinetic energy and its dispersion during collisions and impacts with high force and speed, especially at speeds above 20 m/s.

‘Our aim is to develop an absorber that will serve to protect vehicle and building occupants. The device will be able to be used in conjunction with other protective measures, such as controlled crumple zones, to protect passengers and vehicles during crashes’, explains Dr Igor Labuda.

Once refined and optimised, the device will be able to be used, among other things: in the automotive sector (e.g. in motor vehicles as a component of bumpers, a safety shock absorber, a component of road barriers) and in the construction industry (to absorb the kinetic energy of a falling lift or an aircraft impact on landings on buildings).
