Researchers from the National Center for Nuclear Research in Świerk together with the United States Army Research Laboratory (ARL.) are working on a battery of the future that would be developed of atomic nuclei.
According to Marek Kotłowski, press officer of the National Center for Nuclear Research, the project will be possible thanks to the grant obtained from the US Army laboratory.
Researchers are to concentrate on the study of 186m Rhenium isotope. 1 gram of it can accumulate as much energy as a popular battery for powering an electric car. Theoretically, it is a very attractive source of energy, but it still needs to be able to load and unload such a “battery”. In the works on the new battery, the “Maria” reactor, located in Świerk, will be used.
